Arthur J. “Archie” Washak, passed away unexpectedly on October 15, 2023.
He was born September 3, 1947 but to anyone who knew him, every day was Archie’s birthday. Archie was the son of Chester and Marion (nee Hellert) Waszak. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 40 years, Amy (nee Leffler); brother, Ronald (Vicki) Washak; children, Kimberly (Kurt Rosentreter) Albone, Kristen (Dave) Kuch, Andrew Washak and Kari (Joseph) Root; grandchildren, Mallory, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Brittney, Edwin, Mackenzie, Barrett and Owen; and great-grandchildren, Edwin and Emilia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister, Marjorie; and niece, Wendy Washak-Kimber.
Archie graduated from Medina High School in the Class of 1965. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his courage and sacrifice during battle. Archie was a proud advocate for all veterans and was involved in many fundraising events for veterans.
He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked tirelessly for decades for the betterment of the organization. Years of memories cooking at fish fries, chicken barbecues, cheering for the Buffalo Bills, birthday shots and memories with friends will forever be held within those walls.
Archie worked for 35 years at Delphi Harrison Division of GM in Lockport. He then worked for several years as a caretaker for the ARC of Orleans in Medina.
Husband, Dad, Brother, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa. We were so lucky to call you by each of these names. Through your words and actions, you have shown each of us strength, kindness, grace, compassion and unconditional love. Time and time again, we crossed paths with someone who had interacted with you and each time we heard the same sentiment – “he is a GREAT man.” We could not agree more. You have always provided your family a strong foundation built upon love. The world will never be the same without you here, but the world will always be a better place because you were in it and left your everlasting mark on it.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 20 from 1-4 PM at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W Center St, Medina. All are welcome to join the family after for a Celebration of Life Gathering at 5 PM at the Knights of Columbus, 418 Main St, Medina.
