Barbara L. Lewandowski, 88, formerly from Medina, New York passed away on September 23, 2024, while living with her son’s family in Long Beach, California.
She was born on June 4, 1936 in Medina, a daughter of the late Anthony S. and Francis (Lepkoske) Levanduski. Born and raised in Medina, Barbara met her husband, Walter, during a visit to the dentist. The couple were married on October 11, 1958 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus R.C. Church. Together they raised two sons just north of Knowlesville. Early on, Barbara worked at the candy counter at G.C. Murphy’s and for the Newell Shirt Factory for a short time before becoming a full time stay at home mother and housewife.
Barbara loved cooking and baking. She enjoyed baking Christmas cookies and giving boxes of them as gifts to friends and relatives. She also made and decorated cakes depicting animals for birthdays and holidays. She was especially fond of songbirds and cats and enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Anthony Lewandowski of Long Beach, California and Robert Lewandowski of Greenville, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Norman, Nelson, Charlene, Karen Serena, Jamie and Johnny; two great grandchildren, Lilly and Jack Ziggas; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Bowen of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Walter Lewandowski; and three siblings, Joseph Levanduski, Francis Kozody and Maryanne Sztorc.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 25 at 10AM at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 211 Eagle Street, Medina. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Medina. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.
