Dona B. Masters

Dona B. Masters, of Medina, entered into rest on Monday, May 18, 2020 at home with her loving daughter by her side.

Born August 10, 1932 in San Francisco, California, she was a daughter of the late Donald K. and Beatrice (Elliott) Buterbaugh. Dona earned a bachelor’s degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. There she met her husband, Lloyd H. Masters, whom she married on the evening of her graduation day, on May 26, 1954. Together they raised their family in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and eventually settled in Medina in 1975. An active member of the Medina community, Dona was a member of the Tuesday Club, Garden Gals and the Spinning Guild. She volunteered through TWIGS at Medina Memorial Hospital, the St. Peter Lutheran Church food pantry and also the American Red Cross. She was a former Board member of the Orleans Community Health Foundation, past Treasurer of the TWIG gift shop, and Secretary of the Alpaca Breeders of Western New York. She and her daughter, Sue, raised alpacas for 20 years and Dona learned to spin the fiber into yarn which she custom hand-dyed as well. She created many beautiful items for family and friends and also won several awards at alpaca fiber competitions for her creations. She enjoyed taking trips with the Busy Buddies. An excellent card player, Dona loved playing bridge and socializing with her bridge club. She took great pride in her garden and achieved Master Gardener status. She treasured family and coordinated three family reunions. Dona always enjoyed attending her granddaughter and great-granddaughter's horse shows and riding lessons, rain, sleet, hail, snow or shine.

Dona was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Masters, who also passed away on May 18th in 2011; her son in-law, Stephen Zelazny in 2009; and brother, James Buterbaugh.

She is survived by her four children, Keith (Joanne) Masters of Fredericksburg, Texas, Steven (Marta) Masters of Kent, Washington; Karen (Chris) Findlay of Newark, Delaware and Susan (Frank) Slingerland of Middleport; eight grandchildren, Cassie Masters, Lisa (Steph) Cenal, Chris (Roger Cornell) Masters, Kira (Ryan) Mowry, Sara (Nate Snook) Findlay, Tyler Findlay, Katie (Chris Carlson) Zelazny and Andrew (Sara) Zelazny; two great-grandchildren, Ella Zelazny and Addison Cenal; and her adoptive sister, Susie (James) McQuhae of France.
