Gary Allen Clinton, a dedicated family man, hard worker, and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. He was born on August 4, 1946, in Bath, New York, to the late Fred and Gladys (Punches) Clinton.
Gary was a graduate of Haverling Central School, Class of 1964. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army Reserves beginning in 1966. On August 20, 1966, he married the love of his life, Betty (Bulkley) Clinton. Their remarkable journey together spanned 58 years of devoted and happy marriage.
A man of unwavering dedication, Gary built a respected career in law enforcement, serving his communities as a Steuben County Sheriff Deputy, a Canisteo Police Officer, and later as a Rushford Town Police Officer.
Beyond his professional life, Gary was a man of many talents and passions. He found immense joy in working with his hands, whether as a skilled builder, a creative stained-glass craftsman, or a passionate wine maker. Friends and family who visited him always looked forward to sampling his latest vintage. Gary also cherished spending his free time camping, exploring antique stores, embarking on long rides, and simply sitting on his porch, or enjoying nature with a dish of his favorite vanilla strawberry swirl ice cream. His quick wit and memorable "one-liners" made him a joy to be around, ensuring there was never a dull moment.
Gary also found camaraderie as a proud member of the Masons, The Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks and The American Legion.
Gary and Betty split their time between New York and Florida, spending summers in Medina, New York, close to their daughter, and winters at their home in Spring Hill, Florida.
In addition to his parents. he was predeceased by his brother, Harold Clinton.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Betty Clinton; his son, Gary (Su) Clinton, Jr. of Lebanon, Illinois; his daughter, Gloria Brent (Mike) Snyder of Medina, New York. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren, Gary Clinton III and Manirat “Bo” Siriphong, Nitasha Clinton, Lynda Clinton, Matthew Clinton, Kirsilyn Brent, Rebecca Brent, Samantha Snyder, and Alex Snyder. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Nolan Clinton, Jocelyn Clinton, and Emalee Zinkievich; as well as several nieces and nephews.
His family shared, "Dad, we will miss you immensely. You were always someone we could count on, a straight shooter, and we will miss your advice. Because of you, we have the hearts of a lion, the love of family, and an insane work ethic. We thank you, Dad, for all the calls, wise words of advice, the love you gave us, and the lives we lived because of you. We will forever keep you in our hearts with God."
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 12 from 11:00am-1:00pm at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. His graveside service with full military honors will immediately follow at Boxwood Cemetery, Medina.
