James R. Ambrose, Sr.

James R. Ambrose, Sr., age 84 of Medina, NY passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026 at the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport.

Born October 18, 1941 in Sewickley, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Eva (Yanko) Ambrose. Jim graduated from Columbiana High School in Ohio, Class of 1960. He began his career in golf in 1962 in Cleveland. He then worked for the Pittsburgh Field Club in 1963-64. On April 1, 1965, he moved to Medina to pursue employment as a golf pro at Shelridge Country Club. It was there that he met the love of his life, Lynne Weller. The couple married on November 26, 1966. They went on to raise a family of four children and lived in the Medina area ever since.

After his time at Shelridge, James worked for Iroquois Drug Rehab and then for Albion Correctional Facility as a recreation aide. He also worked as an insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance and lastly as an accountant for Bramer Electric.

Jim was a huge sports fan and enjoyed watching golf, football and baseball. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jim always looked forward to his lunches at Poler’s Pub with his son and daughter, where he also enjoyed playing Quick Draw. His most cherished moments were those spent with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lynne Ambrose; in-laws, Byron and Martha Weller; and brothers-in-law, Van and Bruce Weller.

He is survived by his four children, Leslie (William) Saj, James (Lynn) Ambrose Jr., Heather (Mark) Dempsey and Adam Ambrose; cherished grandchildren, Hannah Saj, Matthew Saj (Gianna Greco) and Corey Saj (Alex Strong), CJ (Ariel) Ambrose and Emma (Mitchell) Wolter, Justin (Sara), Matthew, Ethan and Jameson Dempsey; great-grandchildren, Nathan Hoffmeister, Kavik and Kenai Ambrose, Garrett and Andi Wolter, and Fiona and Gordon Dempsey; brother, Thomas (Tina) Ambrose; sister-in-law, Carole Hall; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

To honor Jim’s wishes, there will be no formal services at this time. Memorials in Jim’s name may be made to Niagara Hospice House at www.niagarahospice.org.
