Janice L. Barrett, 79, of Medina, passed away on February 4, 2026 following a brief illness.
Janice was born September 26, 1946, a daughter of the late Vincent and Gertrude (Fassett) Tabor. She grew up in Kent, one of thirteen children. She married the late Theodore Barrett, Jr. in 1967. She was a longtime active member of the Grove United Methodist Church in Medina. Janice worked many jobs in several states that she lived in, but most recently for Darien Lake Theme Park and Sigma (now Baxter) before retiring in 2012.
She enjoyed watching NASCAR, crime TV shows and the Price is Right. Janice loved frogs and spent her whole life collecting them. In recent years, she enjoyed weekend visits with her grandchildren, Mackenzie Barrett with Olyver and Aubree, as well as Isaiah Barrett, Abigail Barrett and Adreanna Burch. Janice loved manicures from Abigail, playing word twist and word find puzzles. In good weather, she enjoyed long rides just to get out of the house with no destination plans.
She is survived by her four children, Theodore Barrett III of Medina, Janice (William) Stear of Knightstown, IN, Gertrude (Kars J.) Schonveld of Lockhart, SC and Vincent (Teresa) Barrett of Medina; twenty-five grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Marjorie Manley, Wesley Tabor, Daniel (Sheila) Tabor, David (Carol) Tabor, Michael (Fay) Tabor, Mitzi Boryszewski, Sally Tabor and Christine Tabor; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Leslie) Tabor and Nancy Dotts.
In addition to her parents and husband, Theodore Barrett, Jr., Janice was predeceased by a grandson, John Wayne Barrett; four siblings, Nicholas Tabor, Charles Tabor, Patricia Tabor and Leslie Tabor; three sisters-in-law, Betty (Bernard) Zgirbar, Eileen (Jack) Eddy, and Karen (Charles) Tabor; and brother-in-law, W. Thomas Dotts.
Her Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 4PM at The Grove United Methodist Church, 11004 W. Center St., Medina, where a luncheon will follow. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.
