John T. “Jack” Monell, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 12, 1941 in Rochester, New York, Jack was the son of Ronald “Bus” and Eleanor “Ted” Monell. In 1952, the family made their home in Medina.

A proud graduate of Medina High School, Class of 1960, Jack was recognized for four years of perfect attendance. He was an active student, participating in the Rifle Club and serving as a Red Coat, reflecting his early commitment to discipline and community.

On May 4, 1963, Jack married his high school sweetheart, Susan Fox. Together, they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage and made their home in Medina.

Jack worked for Abex and later Brunner, dedicating 44 years to the foundry on Bates Road. His work ethic and loyalty were unmatched. Beyond his professional life, Jack gave generously of his time to the Orleans County Auxiliary Police, serving for 47 years, many of them as Captain. He also served as court deputy for Ridgeway Town Court, was a part time road deputy with the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department for 9 years and proudly graduated from the first Rural Police Academy at Genesee Community College in 1987, earning the distinction of “Top Gun” with a near-perfect shooting score.

Jack was a man of many interests and affiliations. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, as well as the Medina Conservation Club and the Sportsman Archery Club of St. Mary’s. He found joy in traveling, especially to Las Vegas, the Caribbean, and his favorite destination, Maine. He cherished time spent fishing with his close friend, Kenny Blount.
