Michael J. Crowley 

(August 27, 1952 – November 14, 2023)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael John Crowley. Mike passed away on November 14, 2023 at the age of 71, in his hometown of Medina, New York after a long battle with cancer. 

Mike graduated from Medina High School, class of 1970. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in history from SUNY Brockport. After graduating, Mike started his career in Orleans County as a Probation Officer. He had a 27-year career in the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, retiring as a Senior Parole Officer in 2012. 

Mike was an avid sports enthusiast and athlete. It is accurate to say that sports were an essential part of Mike’s life. He was a devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Braves. As an athlete, he excelled at basketball, baseball, softball, billiards, bowling, and golf. Mike won numerous local and state awards, tournaments, and recognitions including a hole-in-one at Clayton Country Club, bowling a 300 at Medina Bowling Lanes, and winning the NYS Collegiate Billiards Championship. He was a member of numerous softball championship teams as well. 

After retiring, Mike split his time between Venice, Florida and Clayton, New York. He felt fortunate to be able to live in both places and said, “he had the best of both worlds.” No matter where Mike was, he always found time for a round of golf. In retirement, Mike enjoyed traveling with friends and family, and fulfilled his dreams to see Alaska and Ireland. He loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons, Finn and Charlie. 

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, John Crowley and Catherine (Murphy) Crowley; his brother, James Crowley; and uncle, Richard Crowley. He is survived by his partner, Elizabeth Lyon; sister, Patricia (David) Bellucci; son, Benjamin Crowley (Madeleine Campbell); daughter, Megan Crowley (Samuel Newberry); son, Samuel Crowley; grandsons, Finn and Charlie Crowley; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. 

Mike was a loving and supportive father, brother, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. He brought people together and made friends wherever he went. Those who knew Mike will miss his humor and affable, friendly presence. 

A memorial service will be held privately by the family and interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. All are welcome to join the family at a gathering to remember Mike on Friday, Dec. 1 from 3-5PM at the Knights of Columbus, 418 Main St., Medina, NY 14103. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.
