Sean McCaughey
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sean McCaughey, who left us on August 14, 2026, at the age of 60.
Born August 28, 1965 in Yeovil, England, he was a son of Gabriel and Angela (Bolt) McCaughey. Sean's life was marked by family, hard work, determination, and the many people whose lives he touched throughout his 60 years. He was a skilled and dedicated carpenter who worked for Robert's Roofing & Siding in Lockport. Sean took pride in his craftsmanship and in being able to build and repair things with his own hands. His work reflected the determination and pride he carried throughout his life.
Above all, Sean was a father and grandfather. He was the proud father of Evelyne McCaughey, Lanae McCaughey, Venesea Gailie, and Todd Gailie, and the beloved grandfather of Bryson Waterbury, Ethan Tagg, Nevaeh Heschke, Kadence, Brett, Connor, and Bentley Russell. His children and grandchildren were an important part of his life, and his legacy will continue through them. Sean shared the greater part of two decades raising a family with Sharla McCaughey. Though life eventually led them down different paths, they remained dedicated to their shared love of their children and grandchildren. Sean also leaves behind his dear companion, Michele Meli, with whom he shared the last several years creating happy memories that brought them joy and comfort. He is also survived by his mother, Angela McCaughey; his brother, Michael McCaughey (Lisa Stolfi); and his sister, Tara Gabriel (Rich McDuffie). He leaves behind his many nieces and nephews, Erin DeWaal (Brett), Brandon McCaughey, Jared McCaughey, Beau Pirrone, Madison Jebb (John), Trinity Pirrone, Clay Pirrone and many extended family members across Ireland, England, and Australia as well as his beloved friends. Sean was preceded in death by his father, Gabriel McCaughey in 2011.
Those closest to Sean are now left with a lifetime of stories, laughter, photographs, lessons, and moments that will continue to bring his memory to mind. For those who shared many years with him, especially his family, 60 years cannot be summed up in a few paragraphs. His passing leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled. His children have lost their father, his grandchildren their grandfather, his mother her son, and his siblings their brother. Each will carry their own memories of Sean and the place he held in their lives.
As we say goodbye, may we remember Sean for the life he lived, the work he was proud of, the family he helped create, and the moments that made him who he was. May those memories bring comfort in the days ahead. Rest peacefully, Sean. You may be gone from our sight, but you will never be gone from the hearts of those who loved you.
Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation which will be held on Tuesday, August 18 from 4:00-7:00 PM with his funeral service immediately following at 7:00 PM at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, NY 14103.
