Valeria A. "Val" Muscarella

Valeria A. “Val” Muscarella, 61, of Albion, NY passed away at her home on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Born June 24, 1965 in Rochester, she was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Frances (Kime) Muscarella. Val graduated from Albion High School, Class of 1983. She went on to earn a master’s degree in English from SUNY Brockport. Val specialized in early education and taught at various places, including for Head Start. She also did social work and was a fervent advocate for the homeless and those in need. Val was a natural and loving caregiver. She had a very special connection to her great-niece, Adelina, who she cared for as a newborn all the way to kindergarten and great-nephew, Michael until he was three. Val was an avid reader. She took joy in spreading her love for reading to the children in the family. Shortly after Adelina was in school, Val took on the role as caregiver for her father, until his passing a couple years ago. Whether it was having the family over for dinner for her “Sunday Sauce” or hosting an Easter egg hunt, Val loved to host gatherings at the family home. She was also an animal lover and just recently took in a rescue dog, Juliette. Val will be remembered for her kind and compassionate heart and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her two brothers, Michael (Joyce) Wright and Patrick (Carla) Wright; nieces and nephew, Katherine (Jeremy) Cortash, Stephanie (Cameron) Hattan, Matthew (Deniz) Wright, Jessica (Benjamin) Decker and Emily Wright; several great-nieces and nephews; aunt, Kayleen (late Robert) Muscarella; and uncle, Joseph Muscarella.

Val’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Teresa and Jerome Pawlak and Marcqui Brown for all of the loving care and support they provided Val in her final years.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 2-4PM with her memorial service immediately following at 4PM at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. Val’s cremains will be spread at their family pond.
